About Therapy & Links

Frequency and Length of Sessions

Sessions are usually 50 minutes (individuals) or 60 minutes (couples), once a week. Sometimes it is in the client’s best interest to meet more frequently. This is determined through discussion with the client on a case-by-case basis. In some cases there may also be a need for extended sessions. These will typically be 75 – 100 minutes and the fee will be adjusted accordingly.

Confidentiality

Material discussed in therapy sessions is held in the strictest confidence. If I feel that it is in your best interest to consult with another professional (such as your medical doctor) I will do so only with your express written permission. However, the following exceptions to confidentiality need to be understood:

CA State law requires that all mental health workers must report suspected child abuse, elder or dependent adult abuse, and serious threats of physical violence to another person. These laws apply whether or not the therapist believes that making a report is in your best interest therapeutically. All mental health workers are also required to take whatever steps are deemed necessary to prevent a threatened suicide.

How Long Does Therapy Last?

Length of therapy is determined collaboratively with the client and varies greatly. Some people come to me to address one specific problem or get through a rough period. Some are on a long-term quest for self-understanding or are seeking to change life-long patterns. Still others want ongoing support as they face challenging life circumstances. Therapy can therefore range from a few weeks to several years, according to the needs and desires of the client.

Fees and Method of Payment

Current fees: $225 for individual psychotherapy (50 minute session). $260 for couple counseling (60 minute session). Sessions are payable by credit or debit card through my online platform. I am only contracted with one insurance company, Carelon Behavioral Health, which serves members of the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan. For all others, I am happy to provide superbills if your insurance reimburses for out-of-network services.
Fees for my Associates Sabrina Bell and Ryan Hynes are $150 for individual therapy and $175 for couple counseling.

Cancellation Policy

24 hour notice is required to cancel a session or the full fee will be charged.

No Surprises Act

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
